  Workshop 2: Developing test strategies for validating ERTMS networks to ensure interoperability and SRS compliance

There are numerous ERTMS projects underway. All have varying requirements and different infrastructure managers opt for technologies from numerous suppliers. In all cases it is essential that solid test and validation procedures are in place to ensure the success of the project – namely interoperability on a national and cross-border level.

High maintenance costs and obsolete signalling systems make many low-density European regional lines unprofitable. ERTMS Regional is an interoperable solution to both modernise the signalling systems of regional lines, and dramatically reduce operational and maintenance costs.  This workshop explores the core elements of ERTMS Regional with a view to increasing understanding of its application, and offers an open discussion on the potential benefits.

TECHNICAL VISIT SHOWCASING ITALY’S LATEST ERTMS INNOVATIONS

 Technical visit: An insight into Italy's latest innovations in ERTMS and high-speed rail courtesy of RFI.

Following two days of discussion around the key issues facing the industry, attendees will now have the opportunity to witness the successful deployment and operation of ERTMS on a high-speed line. An insight into the future of the European rail network and an opportunity not to be missed.

09:00Part 1: A detailed tour and overview of the Roma-Termini IXL and ERTMS high-speed control rooms

Staggered groups will depart from the front entrance of the Radisson Blu, over the road to Roma-Termini, where they will receive a detailed overview of:

  • The control room for the digital interlockings of Roma-Termini
  • The annexed ERTMS control room for the Roma-Napoli high-speed line
  • The IXL and ERTMS trackside diagnostic and maintenance systems
11:00 Part 2: A trip on a commercially active train on the Rome-Napoli high-speed line*

Attendees will board the train at Roma-Termini, and witness a successful ERTMS deployment in action, with:

  • A return trip to Napoli from Roma-Termini on the high-speed line
  • A visit to the cab of the train
  • A technical explanation of the ERTMS/ETCS onboard system in actual operation

*A light lunch will provided on board the train

15:00Return to Roma-Termini where delegates are free to make their way back to the Radisson Blu or onward to their next destination.
